Ministry Student
Asterias is currently exploring how best to fund the education of an additional theological student at the Presbyterian university in Kenya.
There is a great need for fully trained Ministers in Kenya. In some cases current Ministers in rural areas are looking after up to 10 or more widely spread congregations and face many hardships (not least transport difficulties) as they try to cover each of their congregations.
We want to begin to fund the university fees (c. $3,000 p.a.) of a ministry student each year so that an additional Minister will be ordained each year. This means that, at any one time, there will be three such students in place, each in a different year of the 3-year course.
There are practical difficulties to be addressed and discussed with the University to ensure that Asterias annual funding will result in an additional student graduating each year. If this could be brought about it would have a significant and ever-increasing impact on the spread of the Gospel in Kenya over the coming years and go some way to alleviating the current problems in rural areas.
